REDEFINING THE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE
Bringing the Indian-ness into a highly westernised concept of shopping mall.
Huge clear span spaces with glass facade , escalators, countless shops, foodcourts , cinema and maybe an entertainment arena. That seems to be the common tag for a mall practically anywhere. The challenge in this project was how to bring Indian-ness into this highly westernized concept. Indian shopping mostly consists of lanes of shops along the streets. recreating those streets in a controlled environment yet not losing the essence. The use of wooden screens with tree patterns and when you walk along you feel as though you were walking through a street. The floating market with small boats within the mall, that resemble the one we have at the riverside. And having the overall look of a fair bring back memories to people. Using Nostalgia to emotionally connect people to the place , act like a getaway place in the past.
