KANAKA DURGA TEMPLE PRECINCT REDEVELOPMENT - URBAN DESIGN PROJECT
The melting pot of Religions, Vijayawada has always been a centre of religious and historic value. The river Krishna too has added its share of majesty to the city. One Town forms the most ancient and one of the earliest occupied regions within Vijayawada.Belief systems set unsaid rules and regulations that maintain an order and uniformity within a region. They help in the formation and development of its people.Rituals and practises strengthen the values, core and bring solidarity within a group of people. These thereby influence the lifestyle, arrangement and patterns surrounding them.
The temple precinct lies far away from what it had taken the form to be. The rapid urbanization and the spread of commercial activities took away what once was a temple settlement. The encroachments and dense settlements choke the region. An identity that the households beside the temple used to cherish, slowly faded away. As the commercial activities and expanding household took over, Kanaka Durga has new tales of woes and worries. Beginning with traffic and congestion problems to the replacement of temple institutions that had been closely associated with the temple and the community.
