Going with the flow. Are you a dead fish ?

Updated: Aug 7, 2020

Despite being amidst a pandemic, a lot has been happening around us. How do we know about this? Social Media ? News Channels? Newspapers ? WhatsApp forwards ? Well the answer to this can be mixed. But the point is we know our news. Or do we really ?

Disclaimer

  • What is important to you might not be relevant or important to the other person. Does this mean you can be insensitive about it? No

  • Difference of opinion exists and that’s one of the perks of being human. We can agree or disagree on different things.

  • Everything and Anything is justifiable. You will know this once you have watched all the criminal series on Netflix. ( They are kind of my new obsession.)

  • All discussions and debates should follow the minimum code of conduct. Hate comments and responses will not be tolerated.

For example;

( A ) Fascist government is $#$#$ ^%^% along with^%&^ and &^&*&*.

( B ) Fascist Government hinders the overall good of the people and should be condemned.

A is a hate comment while B is a healthy opinion.

  • Any form of threat or abuse will not be tolerated and will be reported and handled through legal channels.

You can continue reading if you have agreed with the above said points.

Let's dive in.

The first topic for discussion today is our crowd favourite,

“Social Media, Trending, and Sharing”

Social media has been playing an important part of our lives. Earlier we had only movies, books, and newspapers that shaped our opinion and thoughts. The new addition to this morale compass is the social media. In a survey conducted among my followers, a significant percentage of followers got their daily dose of news from social media. A significant other part remained neutral and wasn’t much bothered by any news.

I am an active social media user and my favourite media are Twitter and Instagram. I post, share and comment my views and opinions openly. Several followers of mine drew insight from these posts and have helped in forming opinions.

Why having an opinion is important

It is the basis of your moral compass and it describes you as a person and gives you an identity which sets you apart from the others. I personally would want to associate with people who have an opinion. Choosing not to comment on an issue is entirely different from having an opinion.

The Black lives Matter Movement .the gender based violence in Turkey, the blast in Beirut, the Plight of Palestine, the nightmares of Kashmir, the reality of police brutality in our country, the CAA to CAB plight, the National Education Policy, the EIA, the Assam floods and many more incidents were highlighted through social media and these were trending all over.

Why sharing and trending is important ?

Many people actively participate in these trending issues by sending over aids, money and other resources. Several petitions and complaints have seen the light because these issues were shared and trending. Public figures with an enormous following can influence their followers to make a significant change. Not to forget the peer pressure educating and influencing the common folk to form an opinion and set their moral compass thereby helping in change.

The two sides of a coin is an outdated theory. We are the generation of Venn diagrams. Neither the black or the white but the grey area is where it is safe to tread. Extremism isn’t the way kids. While most of the issues still continue and are never spoken about, targeting the ones that get attention and calling it a trend or fashion isn’t justified. This is like saying all lives matter when black lives matter is taking centre stage and finally getting the attention they deserve.

How about you google and find out “Whataboutery”

Do not take social media as your sole source of news. I repeat. Never ever. Don’t. These days you get sugar coated propagandas and you may walk right into it if you aren’t aware of the reality and the truths. So tread safe in the ocean of social media.

“Ram Mandir, Fascism and India”

This is a very sensitive topic. And I am going to be very careful about not hurting any.

The world today saw the laying of foundation stone for the much talked about Ram Mandir in Ayodhya which is believed to be the birth place of Ram and holds importance in Hinduism.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate the believers for getting a temple in their God’s birthplace. Secondly let me ask if it was the temple being built or that it is being built by razing down the Muslim Mosque is what is making them happy ?

Moreover People bringing about Mecca, Vatican city and others among the discussion. India is a secular country. While Saudi Arabia and Vatican city are not. You can't publicly say you are secular and go about doing thing that non secular countries do. It is like saying you are married publicly and at the same time saying you are a bachelor. What man? Get your definitions right at least.

Thirdly, why are the PM of the secular country of India and CM of UP, a state in secular India more than involved and hosting the said ceremony. Only the invitation card states them as guests and that’s it. Not to mention the live stream on the national television of the said secular country.

Let us not start on the funds the government is allocating to this event and the temple from the tax payers’ money. Let us also not get into the statue fetish of the ruling party.

Being the head of a secular country doesn’t mean he has to be an atheist. He can have his beliefs but can’t cater to a single religion using the nation’s resources. As the PM of a secular country, he or she can attend the event as a guest. Again, his security and expenses are borne by the country, the very fund from the tax payers’ money which does not have any religious barrier or coding. So if he has to practice his religion, he has to go with his own resources. But that’s not possible because he is the PM, top security official. It simply can’t happen. So that would be the freedom he gives up in an ideal situation as the PM of a secular country.

In simple words, it is like Shahrukh Khan saying he wants to go grocery shopping. He simply can’t do it without security officials. That is the freedom he gave up when he became a celebrity.

What more can I say? I really need to cleanse out a lot of people from my life because they come from extremist thoughts and beliefs that I can never digest.

If you are still not convinced, I have one last resort, Watch the documentary titled, "In the name of God". If you still can't see it. Then it is time we part our ways.
